The fault line around the coast of California has been violent through out the years. The San Andrea's Fault, roughly 810 miles long, is the large fault line on the west coast of the United States. From the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake to the less notable 2004 Parkfield Earthquake, the west coast has grown accustomed to the natural disaster. However, the majority of earthquakes in the United States occur in Alaska.
Alaska has about 57% of the United State's earthquakes. Having around 2,200 earthquakes in 2012 (23%), California has the second largest percentage of occurring earthquakes in the United States. Hawaii and Nevada, have 7% and 3% of the occurring earthquakes in the United States.
There were estimated to be about 3,836 earthquakes alone in the year of 2012. A majority of the earthquakes had a magnitude of 2.0 or lower.
